nocturne for Vallentuna Church

We first visited Vallentuna Church on a snowy, sunny winter Sunday. Remember? Three months later, here's a summer night rendezvous. First established in the 1190's, struck by lightning in 1856, organ replaced in 1959... if only these walls could talk!

I really like your night shots, I'm trying to do something at night but I'm not very good at this.

Yes. 10 centuries give or take a little bit. It's mind boggling. Good night shot though I prefer the snowy scene!

Strategically located, this church is overlooking downtown Vallentuna.

Vogon Poet: Thanks. Do remember that the light is really different at different latitudes. Our "nights" never get dark at all at this time of year which tends to surprise foreign visitors.

cieldequimper: I appreciate the snowy version too. With the kind of climate we're heading for that will probably become an unusual sight.

Thanks for staying up late with us.

This is exactly what crosses my mind when I think of any building this old...

Excellent shot; rather romantic; great light!

Another nice night shot.

I'm probably a sentimental fool but I always find it fascinating to experience the stark contrasts between our seasons when revisiting a place like this.

JM: We've been fortunate to avoid earthquakes and similar random destruction over the centuries.

Jacob: Probably is a touch of romance to this one. Didn't think of that.

Halcyon: Your church series helped inspire me!

Again, thanks all.

It looks quite different in summer :-)

Most of our suburban church visits only involve exterior shots but here we have actually been inside as well.

exposemaximum: Glad you think so.

Tinsie: Oddly, my hands didn't feel that different. It was 3C when I stopped by on this particular night. Otherwise you're right of course.

Thanks all.
