E4

The European route E4 is almost exclusively a Swedish affair. If it wasn't for a kilometre in Finland I suppose we couldn’t call it a European route at all. While passing through Sollentuna it is six lanes wide and runs more or less in parallel with a major railroad. See more?

Tjugo kronor litern för bensinen så ska det väl ändå lugna sig lite härute?

Lovely blue sky, with a few clouds and a perfect composition, that leads the eye along the picture. Well done!

Six lanes -- is there ever any congestion on the E4? Actually, what is the number for car ownership in Sweden? I don't know it for CH, but it seems that most people I know have cars (on the other hand, I don't know many people who live IN towns or cities such as ZH).

Z: Unfortunately I don’t have the numbers for Stockholm, but in 2005 some 4.1 million cars were registered in Sweden (with a population of 9 million).

As from 1 August 2007, a congestion tax is imposed on Swedish registered vehicles driving into and out of the Stockholm inner city zone on Monday to Friday between 6.30 a.m. and 6.29 p.m.

According to newspaper reports 300 000 cars passed the control points on a typical day prior to the congestion taxes and on 1 August only 238 000 cars entered or exited. The latest published figure is from 8 August when approximately 275 000 cars passed the control points.

Underbara färger, fält och linjer...

Surprisingly serene view considering the noise on the bridge where I shot this. Sometimes a silent photo doesn’t tell the whole story...

Z: It was congested this very morning; we’re back in the routine after a couple of nice summer months. Like Peter pointed out, we do have a congestion tax for the inner city (best tax ever if you ask me). This photo however was shot 15 km outside the tax zone.

Thanks all for commenting. We’ll return to E4, stay tuned for that.

Går inte E4:n ner till Lissabon?
